@nickysmom89, good to know my job didnt give me much info just said i hve to apply for the edd once im going into leave..... after birth it's 6 weeks right?? unless you had a c section..
Correct and then you get an additional 12 weeks for bonding. So it works out like this if you qualify for FMLA.... The state will pay you 55% of your salary for 4 weeks prior to your delivery + 6-8 weeks depending on the type of delivery+ 6 additional weeks for bonding ( using CFRA). You also get an additional 6 weeks of job protected leave but that's unpaid. I'm taking it all. Especially since this is my first.
@nickysmom89, oh wow I didn't know any of this.. that is great!! this is also my first and I just want to have everything ready as far as financial support while I'm off and I'm just completely lost on how to apply and so forth .. great information thanks much... did you call or went into an office?
No problem. I called our HR department and also researched on the edd website. The only stressful thing was making sure the doctor filled out all the paperwork in a timely manner but after that it's smooth sailing.
@nickysmom89, the good thing is I'll have tax money saved lol but I don't want to rely on that I rather pay stuff with the money I'll be getting for leave and use the other for emergencies. . I'm going to call edd for further info I'm only 22 weeks but I definitely don't want to stress last minute
@nickysmom89, when did you start doing all of your paperwork? I'm also in California and haven't even started my maternity leave process and I'll be 30 weeks at the end of this week?
Yes try to call them ahead of time if you can. @mjbaby2016 I gave my doctor the paperwork at around 32 weeks because it takes their office a while to fill out things. They had to fill out paperwork for my employer and for the state. The state paperwork can be submitted on the doctor's behalf online if they are willing to take that route. The state only allows you to submit paperwork within the first 7 days that you have been on maternity leave. Your employer can take your notice within 30 days that you're planning to take leave. I work for Kaiser so they needed specific forms filled out.

36 weeks. California gives you 4 weeks before your due date so I took full advantage of it. Totally worth it.

My doctor suggested to get one month off before and one off after birth.

federal law states that your job is protected for up to 12 weeks of maternity leave. it is unpaid, but whatever time you can take is worth it.
