The 6 weeks is just a recommendation. Its safe when you feel its safe. 3 weeks is the most you should wait, if you feel up to it and you dont have any stitches. Your body needs healing and the wound from the plecenta separation from your uterus needs about 3 weeks to heal. Go slow and avoid the missionary possition for a while because it introduces to much air in the canal which can increase chances of infection. Also get really good fitting condoms, i suggest the Trojan Charged or Ecstasy because after a baby your sex drive could be low.

After your postpartum is up (6-8 weeks). You're supposed to go to your OBGYN appointment after that and he/she will check you and tell you if you're in the clear or not.
