I would tell him straight up like.. "look, we can be adults about this and share this day for the sake of our son, or make him miserable by fighting the way we do." I don't like my bd but I'd rather be everywhere my son is than leave him alone with my bd.

You're his mom, you can do whatever you want. He doesn't have to like it. You're not taking his day, you're simply sharing it because its your son's birthday.
