So coming straight out of high school I was in an extremely abusive and controlling relationship. I worked my ass off my senior year hoping and wanting to go to college that fall... well that didn't happen. my ex refused and made me find a job instead.. well whatever, that's fine. That's how I met my now amazing and loving and supportive fiance!!! Well anyway fast forward 2 years to the beginning of 2015 and I had finally worked up the nerve to ask my fiance if I could go back to school.. And he was like of course! So I applied, sent everything in and got accepted. We had decided that i should stay in a dorm so I could be closer to class and not have to drive.... I bought everything for the dorm, I met my roommate, had picked my classes and already bought one of my books... But they told me that all of my personal loans and grants wouldn't be enough to cover the cost of the entire tuition and that I would have to get my parents to get a loan for me... Well they absolutely refused... I heard "sorry I know you wanna go to school but we aren't taking a loan out for it" Which hurt... bad. I had 2 weeks to come up with around 9,000 and I couldn't do it... my fiance and I both tried for private loans and we couldn't get anything.... My fiance even told my parents that he would pay the loan payments when they started after I graduated, but they still said no... Anyway, the dead line passed and the school gave away my room, meal plan, and class spots.. I cried almost every night after school started.. my parent's had been telling me since January that they would do whatever they had to do so I could go... but I guess that only meant using them on FAFSA... The point of this is so I could rant to someone.. I feel like if I would have been able to actually go to college then I wouldn't be pregnant just yet, but when I did get pregnant I would be able to help better support us... it hurts that my own parents crushed my dream... and it's just been hitting me super hard lately... Sorry this is so long guys, but thanks for reading....

as parents they should of supported you :/

just from experience its so much cheaper to live off campus and to not use your parents on fasfa.. hope you dont give up and try again next semester

I have to use them on FAFSA becaus I am under 25. And even off campus I wouldn't have had the money to go. I won't be going until after baby girl is born, but I'll be doing online

you could still go.. just dont dorm..its not worth it.. make it ao your classes are on certain days and commute.. i commute now. im more than likely not going next semester

Ya they should've supported you like I get that maybe they just didn't want to lose out on the money if it didn't get paid back and get stuck paying it but I dont think that was your plan you were trying to better your life they should've helped you but stay strong you don't need their help it would've been nice but now you have to show them that you can do it on your own! I know it's going to be hard with a baby and maybe not living in a dorm but your baby will be your motivation for a better future just stay positive think will work out when the time is right good luck and best wishes don't beat your self up over this because you've done everything you could've you can't do their parts too and this will also be motivation for you to be a good and supportive parent and help your child or children follow their dreams !

Don't give up. If it's your dream to get a college education, you still can. It may not be on the same timeline or the exact experience, but it's still possible to do it one day. Good luck!

Very unusual you couldn't get a school loan. try for grants next year maybe?
