my dog always hides away from the baby I can't tell if he's scared of him or scared of getting in trouble. how should I reinforce better behavior from him? Bc I want him to love my baby. like he does he's very protective of him. he tried to bite my mil for taking him out of my hands. but he's scared. but my dog is scared of everything lol. advice??

Reward him for good behavior. So while you're holding baby, if he doesn't seem scared give him a small treat (training treats or a small piece of cheese or hotdog). He'll associate being around the baby with a reward and he shouldn't be as timid. As for protective behavior, nip that in the bud. Have someone keep him leashed and have him sit, then have someone approach you/baby. If he stays seated, treat. Then move up to letting someone grab/hold baby doing the same thing (leash, sit, treat). Hope that helps!

well it's only my mil lol I think he has issues with her she doesn't like animals and Is very anxious I think he can sense it. but why is the protective behavior bad? And thank you for the tips !! :) will definitely try them !! @kmally

You just don't want the protective behavior to turn into him trying or actually biting your MIL or anyone else. <3 he has to learn that others will want to approach you/hold baby :)
