Go by what your dr says. Every dr is different

they'll do the ultrasound most likely. you can find out as soon as 16 weeks but they usually won't do it until you're at least 17 weeks.

Some doctors prefer you to be 20 weeks but I had an ultrasound at 18 and I get another one tomorrow just because the tech is awesome. Plus I already knew what the gender was at 10 weeks (blood test). lol

The further along you are it's easier to see which is why most say wait. I didn't see my sons wang until 21 weeks even thought I had previous ultrasounds he just wouldn't show us lol

well my next apt I'll be 15 weeks and my Dr said that we might be able to see what I'm having if not I'll have to wait until I am 20 weeks or whenever the baby is ready

They usually do 2 ultrasounds. One when you first find out your pregnant and then the anatomy scan which they do a little over 20 weeks, if your doctor said you are then chances are you are going to find out the sex.
