It is important to make informed, educated decisions not only based off of what you are told, but based off of what you feel inside your heart and based off of medical facts. No medical organization in the world recommends routine infant circumcision. It is time to stand up against the social "norm" here in the United States and protect our baby boys!
@happyluckyfun, my thoughts exactly! If you're going to study the pro's of circumcision(which I don't believe there are any, but whatever), at least go to a reputable website. I have never visited a more poorly written & unfactual website in all of my life. Lol
@alyen2, wow that's the website where you got your "information?" I don't see a single link to an actual research study. It's just a guy who got circumcised later in life writing in poorly constructed sentences saying how much he likes it. Wow. No facts whatsoever. And actually, plenty of men I've spoken to have mentioned the extreme distracting discomfort they felt from their exposed glans rubbing in their underwear as children. And this man attempts to say that underwear has made the foreskin redundant somehow. Wow. What a load of nonsense with no facts!! I am so, so sorry that your decision was swayed by the ramblings of a circumfetishist.
Wow !!!! That's insane I had no idea ! No thanks if rather keep my clitoris please and thank you !i can't believe people think is okay to mutilate male or female genitalia
@brandylemonds15, yep. It is the act of removing the clitoris and some labia, and in third world countries like ethiopia, they used to/still do practice stitching part of the vagina closed. Its very scary and sad..... But whats even more scary and sad is that they perform female circumcision because they believe it poses the SAME BENEFITS that male circumcision does. How long will it be before the US realizes that male circumcision really isn't much different?
@alyen2, in "fact #2" that website provided, it states he will 100% likely love his circumcised penis. I recommend you look into the facebook page called "circumcised men do complain." It was thrown together by hundreds of men who wish their parents had left the choice up to them. A lot of men are actually going as far as to surgery to replace the foreskin that was once taken from them.
@alyen2, as I respect your decision, that website is not a very reputable one. Actually, everything they states is false. Circumcision removed 20,000 nerve endings which make the foreskin the most sensitive part of the penis. The foreskin plays the role of the clitoris on the male. Imagine not having a clitoris. Also, the head of the penis does not have to be exposed at all times to remain clean. Is every part or your vagina exposed at all times? No. We have a labia that actually keeps part of our vagina covered to maintain moisture and good natural bacteria. Foreskin actually plays a big role in sex for both the male and female. It can make a tremendous difference in feeling for both, as it provides more lubrication and is more smooth.
@brandylemonds15, exactly! The foreskin has 20,000 nerve endings and plays a big role. But, heres a fun fact - female circumcision was actually legal in the US until 1997. How crazy!!!
I never understood why they started doing circumcisions in the first place .. To me it's like having a little girl and being like oh nipples are ugly lets just cut them off pointless why would they be born with it if it wasn't necessary
@rebcamdot, you have an awesome OB! Im sorry about your babies birth defects, I will pray his surgery is very positive and healing for him! I'm sure he will be a little fighter and push right through. Poor little guy.
@nolansmommy, I had a conversation about it with my OB too and he said he tries to advise against it and always gives information for both sides. My mom even went as far as to say that she regrets having my brother circumcised too. She said he was obviously in pain and so uncomfortable while it healed and she just cried and cried. Our baby already has enough to deal with as he has a heart defect that will require surgery at birth. There is no way I'm putting him through anything medically unnecessary!
@redcamdot, thats awesome that your mom is informed on intact care and circumcision. Unfortunately a lot of medical professionals feel it needs to be done and some even pressure moms into it. One day though, we will achieve no routine cosmetic surgeries on babies :)
@nolansmommy, Thanks! My mom is a NICU nurse and she's the one who initially brought it up and after talking to her and then with each other, we knew it was something we just didn't want for out boy.
I have all boys 3 and 1 on the way and none are circumcised I have always said if they didn't need it why would they be born with it but that's just my opinion
@rebcamdot, that makes me so happy to hear! Your baby boy is going to have a great set of parents and start of a new life. Its awesome that you guys looked into it and made an informed decision! Just remember, that you should never retract the foreskin to clean it. That is actually what causes most infections in intact boys. The foreskin will naturally retract when he gets a little older. Only clean what is seen, just like a finger! 😄
My boyfriend and I spent a lot of time talking about this, and we decided not to have our baby boy circumcised. We don't want to put him through something that isn't necessary simply for cosmetic reasons.
@judy699, feel free to try and share some knowledge with him. My boyfriend was the same way. In fact, years ago I was too. It is normal to feel like you need to do it, because the truth is, the US falls behind when it comes to this practice.. 50% of all American baby boys are leaving the hospital intact nowadays because of mothers and fathers researching and finding out the truth. That means that when all of our beautiful babies are older and in their teenage years, it will actually be NORMAL for boys to have not been circumcised.
I'm glad I didn't have a boy for this reason, before I knew the sex of my child I was pressured by everyone to circumcise my son if I was in fact having a boy! It's mutilation and only cosmetic. With great hygiene, there should be no infections or problems with unclean areas!
@momma588, before you make a decision, just do some research for yourself. It is not my place to tell you or anyone else what to do, but only to help educate and bring awareness. If it helps you guys make a decision, know that the United States is the ONLY country that routinely circumcises baby boys. 80% of ALL men in the world are left intact :)
@hale, i can post some very good things to show him for you! When we first found out I was having a boy, my boyfriend got very irritated when I said no to circumcision. He thought it was what you had to do, he believed all of the lies that its cleaner and healthier. His main concern was that he would be teased later in life. I was able to inform him and educate him a little, then we talked to my midwife and she even told him it is cosmetic, no medical reason for it! He has come around and now we are both very proud in our decision to leave him intact.
