I did it and I think it's totally worth the money! as far as it being safe, who knows for sure, but if you go to a reputable place you'll probably be fine!

no type of ultrasound is technically safe. but the chance of it causing something is slim.

yes it is safe! I got it done once! I loved being able to see what she actually looks like but I still like the black and white ultrasounds better
