That's a good question cause with a c-section don't they put a catheter anyways? I'm curious to know why also.

Yeah they do. And I have like 4 hours til my scheduled c-section but I am super flippin thirsty.

Yah no water. With my first c section i had to have fluid removed at 24 weeks. I lunch that day and drank as normal. I wasn't supposed to go into labor. I unexpectedly went into labor my first son came vaginal and they had to take my other son by emergency c section. I aspirated on the table because eating and drinking as it was unexpectedly labor line I said but I almost died twice they said. My infant loss story is on my page I'm not going to go into detail but it's important you don't eat or drink anything.

@mamashane89, it's not necessarily fasting but being NPO (nothing by mouth) due to chances of aspiration. Meaning you can choke or bring up whatever you ate. Although you're not going under general anesthesia but csection is still considered a surgical procedure. Sometimes if I know what time a patient is going for surgery I would dab the mouth with water or give ice chips and that makes a big difference. Hang in there.

Being a nurse assistant aspiration is always a big risk for surgery. They do if to ensure you're safe during the procedure you never know if you will have to be fully sedated. This protects you from choking which can cause serious problems which you don't want. Like she said you can ask for ice chips or mouth swabs dipped in water. My recent c section I didn't eat or drink anything for more than 12 hours and long after my surgery as they put you on a liquid diet after and I was fine. You'll be ok.
