I'm gonna kill my 8 year old son; I'm so annoyed that he tries to sleep in our room every night but sneaking in with his blanket and sleeping on the floor next to our bed first it was him getting in the bed now it's him by the bed, I catch him every time and tell him to get out! He goes back in his room; a few hours later he's turning on the light in his room and tv which is not good cause if we don't get up to turn it off it stays on all night which runs up the electric bill, he has two night lights which is very bright. I'm at my wits end with this boy and I'm about to take the tv and light out his room, then he'll have nothing!! 😡 And right now I have insomnia soon I'll probably just go downstairs and sleep on the couch cause it's too many distractions that I can't get a good night sleep! My doctor suggested Benadryl but who wants to keep taking that while they pregnant every night😒. HELP!! Any Advice or Suggestions would be appreciated 🤔

Maybe set the timer on the tv so it will go off on its on . I could never go to sleep without the tv on when i was younger actually still cant . Or maybe get to the root of the problem he might be scared of something or not feel safe i had alot happened to me in my childhood even now as an adult i have to sleep with a nightlight all doors closed etc or i freak out . Try reading to him before he goes to sleep listening to soft music cuddling making him feel safe in his own room

If it went from your bed to your floor id say that's an improvement and he just needs to know mommy is close by. I'd tell him he can only come in to sleep on the floor when he NEEDS to. Then he'll know you're there for him if he needs it but can be a big boy and sleep in his room. Also try asking him why? I had anxiety as a child and would be scared to be in my room alone. Especially in the dark. If you talk to him about it you can get a better understanding of what you can do. I always thought somebody was gonna break in and rob us and hurt my mommy, so of course I didn't want to sleep without her, what if it was the last time I saw her? The tv definitely helped when I was a kid, too. So I agree with putting a timer on it. Or letting him watch one movie and having it turn off after. I have an old ass tv and it does that so it shouldn't be an issue. Eventually he'll learn how to rationalize but he's still pretty young and doesn't quite understand that just because it's dark and quiet doesn't mean all the bad things are gonna happen, and When he thinks of something that makes him uncomfortable he can tell himself, hey, the doors locked, I have my night light, and my mom will come to me if I need her. The more you push him to be independent the harder it'll be for him to feel secure in himself.

That's all good suggestions his tv has a timer and it goes off at a certain time he'll sleep for maybe 3 or 4 hours than wake back up and turn it on and the light, we read at night for an hour. I'm thinking he's just spoiled and wants to sleep in the bed with me and his dad! He's very smart and manipulative; he's been doing this for a very long time I use to let him sleep with us but he is toooo big now, and I need space. Let alone to actually sleep. @Leiibaaaby

Im gonna talk to him today; I'm actually thinking of taking the lamp and unplugging the tv which would just leave him with the night lights! And locking our bedroom door so he can't sneak in.. Hope that doesn't sound to tough!

And maybe try giving him a pillow or something to sleep with of yours it may help him transition easier, I was born premature at 26 weeks so when I finally went home my mom has to keep a super close eye on me I had to sleep with a heart monitor and breathing machine so a lot of times I'd end up falling asleep in my moms bed but when she married my dad he wouldn't let a kid sleep in the bed so my mom bought me this little mermaid towel and wrapped it around a pillow and slept with it a few weeks then gave it to me and it helped a lot with getting me to sleep in my own room

I'm gonna let him sleep with my robe that sounds like a good idea! @brandylemonds15

Glad to help :) ps I sleep with that dang towel until I was like 12 ( but it helped with my anxiety) but hopefully this works I know how hard it is to sleep pregnant let alone pregnant and a kid taking up 95% of the bed :)
