whats the deal with antenatal classes...... how many do u have and when do they normally start ??
They're different in all areas. If you don't think the ones that your midwife is offering are enough then just Google antenatal classes in your local area. their might be ones run by different companies or charities etc. or like I said, your children's centre.
Iam a nursery nurse so lost of experience but wanted to go and see and I'm still worries as my first baby ...and lot of questions not sure about ....but midwife book me in for 2 hours session on 24th November. ..just seem too far away and thought u can more then on classes .....plus to help ur parent too
It's different in all areas. your midwife should tell you about them and sign you up. Or you can contact your local children's centre and ask as they're often held there. I didn't go...but it you have minimal experience with babies are worried/anxious etc they're great to make you feel better and meet people who are expecting around the same time as you. I'm not sure they deal with labour. Our hospital ran an active labour class which was just once for about two hours. I've heard it's really good, teaches how to stay active during labour, massage techniques for your birthing partner, breathing techniques etc. If they offer something like that definitely take it (I didn't go because it was quite late at night and I was exhausted and fell asleep haha) but breathing correctly REALLY helps in labour. I didn't realise how good pain relief breathing could be!
I never went to Antenatal classes. my midwife and stuff kept asking if I was going and I jist never went. I wanted to learn things on my own, and I wanted to do things that same naturally to me in Labour and as a parent. I felt like the classes would have made me think that I needed to be doing something and if I didn't I was doing something wrong so I just never went.
Oh cool thankyou. ..have to have a look xx
