Not a veteran mommy,but check out the Chimparoo Mei Tai. It doesn't require an insert and was quite comfortable and easy to use when we tried it on.

I love my ergo! with the infant insert you can carry them around 6-7 pounds. and it keeps them in frog legged position so it lowers the risk of hip dysplasia when they are older (:
