since Phoebe was born my mum has had her at night so I can recover from stitches and to get myself better as I lost alot of blood during labour. I've had her at night twice since she was born and both times I just couldn't sleep every little noise she made I was up out of bed and looking at her. I just can't rest when I have her, I'm scared I won't wake up if she cries or of she brings up sick while I sleep, and I'm scared of going to sleep overall when I have her in with me. is this normal to be this scared and should I tell my hv? how can I relax myself so I can sleep, I feel bad for not having her at night and letting my mum have her, I feel like I'm a bad mum for not having her with me as I feel it's my job, but my mum tells me it's better for me to get better first and I'm doing it for her so I can be a good mum to her. I just don't believe it

It is normal to worry...I think every first time mum is like that...also even mums on there 3rd or 4th child. I know I would be up ever 2 mins checking on my bubs and please don't feel bad for letting your mum do nights. It is best to get better so you can be in tip top condition to look after her xxxx It is great that your mum is so supportive 😍😍😍 I'm sure you will wake up hun :) @emilyb_c

Why don't you get a sensor mat - as that will ease you. Also babies have a strong gag reflex as I was worried about the same thing . You can always buy a cot/crib wedge which prevents any anxiety about it . And believe me as a mum you will wake up. It's basic instinct x

You will wake up if she cries. It's naturally to sleep more lightly when you've got a newborn. I would always wake up before my son started crying. .I just knew he was awake.not sleeping properly is part of the process of being a mum...your body is training you to listen to her noises, to learn what's normal and what's not.

@tiasohi1, @tuftyturtle the main reason I'm worried I won't wake up is because I dont feel like there is much of a bond there. I didn't get that rush of love for her the first time I saw her or anything. I feel like she likes my mum more than me, and it makes me feel so upset

I had my first when i was 17
I was in temporary accommodation with her on my own.
I didn't build up a bond with her for months.
I felt she didn't like me.
you need to talk to someone about it as soon as you can.
I got really depressed and is completely normal with what your feeling.
not every mum feels it straight away.
hang in there it will come.
my daughter is 18 years old now and have the best relationship :-) x

@bee1979, thanks for the advice. I'll talk to my doctor about it, I won't tell my health visitor as the last thing I need is her thinking I'm an unfit mum and not able to take care of her.

I never felt the 'bullshit' rush of love that people bang on about. I didn't start thinking that I loved him until he was 10 weeks. I think that's normal. do you fall head over heals in love with a stranger? However, without being rude, I think you need to not let your mum do so much. It's nice to have a break sometimes but she's your daughter and to feel like her mum you need to do the hard stuff as well as the nice stuff
