Could be old blood if you are or were on birth control. I had that problem. Or could be implantation bleeding.

Implantation bleeding is when the fertilized egg attaches or "implants" to the uterus wall

Is your period late? If so, I'd wait a few days and then go get one just to be sure

Spotting can happen for multiple reason, but so can missed periods. Better safe than sorry though :)
