My son had dilated kidneys my whole pregnancy and at my 33 week ultrasound we saw one get better on it's own and the other still a little dilated. My doctor said it's really common in boys. But it freaked me out at first when he told me it was a marker for downsyndrome. But after many ultrasounds, testings, and reassurance I feel so much better about it now. My doctor said his body will most likely fix it on it's own. But no matter what it is fixable!!

Yes!!! It freaked me out when he first told me! Then he asked if the Down syndrome test came back okay and I was like yea? I didn't know it was a marker for Down syndrome! Oh no! I hope it goes away! The high risk doctor said that there wasn't much in there so he thinks it'll go away before he's born! I hope so! My first pregnancy I never had any type of complications!

@haybearsmomma, It will most likely go away! If not, they can always fix it when he is born!

Oh ok good! But would they have already told me if he was high risk for having Down syndrome? Cause I went to the high risk dr once already and that's when he said there wasn't a lot of fluid in his kidneys just a little. But they never mentioned anything bout Down syndrome

@haybearsmomma, It's just a soft marker for downs. If that's the only marker your baby has, then I wouldn't even worry about it. Like I said it's really common for boys to have dilated kidneys. If your ultrasound came back normal with the high risk doctor then everything should be fine, they would have found other things that would link him to having downs. I thought all doctors had to tell their patients.. My doctor said the only reason he told me that at first was for liability issues. But right now my baby should be relatively healthy!

Oh ok awesome! That makes me feel a whole lot better! And I ended up switching OBS cause my first ob was a Pos! So maybe that's why I wasn't told...@whitney but thank you I feel a lot better bout it now.

@haybearsmomma, No problem! It's nothing to worry about, if it was, they would have definitely told you by now!
