Hey preggies, moms and moms to be! I've often read posts containing misinformation regarding circumsion, and being the total science nerd that I am, I wanted to provide some current info backed by the medical and scientific community. Numerous studies have been done on the risk-benefit analysis of circumcision and the following have been found amongst circumcised males:
a decrease in urinary tract infections, reduced risk of stds including hiv and hpv, protection against penile cancer, reduced risk of cervical cancer in female sex partners, and prevention of balantitis and balanoposthitis (inflammation of glans and foreskin). Several of these studies were published out of Johns Hopkins university, and can be found in numerous medical journals. I'd be more than happy to e-mail any links to the research (impossible to type out on here). No matter what, your decision is your own, but I hope validated research can ease the burden of this controversial topic/decision.

🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 girl preach😜 it's true though I know several couples where they guy wasn't circumcised and they both had infections and problems all the time.

My son will be circumcised. His dad encourages it. Thank god. I didn't want to fight that battle

I think that people research but don't check the sources. And most time the info that they get comes from biased media outlets. I let my husband decide what we were going to do bcuz he is a MAN. My decision would have been based on if our baby felt great pain or not. So I'm glad I have him here to do it for me.

@tater4414, @kaygrig @caseclosed2015 well I'm a clinical researcher by profession, so I have access to medical and scientific journals that most people don't. Circumcision is certainly a loaded topic, surrounded by a lot of misinformation and fallacy. Ultimately it's the parents' choice, I just hope to provide research-backed info so that tough decision is easier to make.

by the way my sons both were asleep during the procedure felt nothing and it didn't faze them lol but every child is different. I do not tjink they remember it though lol

@steffiepaige, that's awesome! I know most surgeons use some form of anesthetic, and the excision is literally over in seconds. It really is a personal decision, though, so I won't judge a parent either way. I just know if I was having a son, I would circumcise (for medical and religious reasons).
