I did this with midwives in a birthing center. my birth was long and more painful than I thought was possible. after hours my husband drove me to the hospital to get an epidural because I was so exhausted. I really wanted the natural birth. I was a 9 when they took me to the hospital I still didn't have her for another 12 hours. my friend had her baby natural and said her contractions didn't hurt that bad. everyone is different. though I suggest you be in a place you can get an epidural if you need one. personally I won't put myself through something like that again. I feel I would have died had I not been able to rest after the epidural.

I had my daughter naturally in 2008 because I'd made up my mind that I was not getting a needle in my spine. The nurse did start a pitocin drip without my permission, they just started it on me. I was in labor from 2:30a to 8:30a...it involved a lot of hand squeezing, ice chips, deep breathing and yelling - cherish the time in between contractions. Honestly, the pain was pretty intense but tolerable. The best part was once the baby was out, the pressure was gone instantly and although there was lingering pain, you feel immediate relief. Hope this helps some.
