I don't have one. We just got out of the hospital today. I have flat nipples so I was trying to use a nipple shield. @eneoster

@junesmommy15, I was hand expressing I just wasn't doing it in a hot shower, does it have to be in the shower?

I will. I just feel like I'm wasting a lot of good stuff that my baby needs and can't get. @eneoster

put a hot rag on them...they could be engorged with milk...the rag or a hot shower should help release the milk

It doesn't. Sometimes I have to hand express in a bottle and I'll freeze so I can donate it.

@junesmommy15, I'm probably gonna express into a cup and put it into some sample breast pump bags I got and then use that in a bottle to feed him. Do you think that would work?

That's perfectly fine.

@junesmommy15 I don't even have actual milk yet, i still have the clear kinda cloudy colostrum on other boobs. I can just feel myself about to have a breakdown. 😢

Also try to feed baby on the breast afterwards so that you can get more relief. The more often you feed him the more relief you'll have.

Noo don't breakdown. That's great for baby! What's wrong?

@junesmommy15 I was told that I have flat nipples and so he can't latch without me using a nipple guard but even that doesn't work half the time. At night I have to give him formula just so he will sleep and not scream all night.

@junesmommy15, I just wanted to breastfeed so bad and then to be told that I can't do it the natural way and have to use a piece of plastic, a pump or formula just to be able to feed my baby just makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong and that I'm not being a good enough mom, and the hormones aren't helping with it at all.

I had flat nipples so it was a little difficult for my baby at first. I would try to stimulate them before feeding him so they would protrude out good enough for him to latch. That helped. Once they start getting better with latching it's like your nipples naturally stick out more. My nipples were inverted and I would say after a good three to four weeks they were protruded permanently. Even sometimes I get a little embarrassed because they'll be hard while I'm out.😄

@junesmommy15, I just feel like I can't do it naturally, I get so discouraged and want to give up.

You are doing great!😊 Just the fact that you want to nurse your baby shows that you're a great mother. Don't think otherwise. Try to stimulate your nipples and then feed so they're out. Find a lactation specialist or consultant to help you. If you have Wic they have free lactation classes and specialist that can help you out. The first month is always hard and a bit depressing for moms. I would be lying if I said this isn't normal. Keep pushing. We were all made to be able to do it naturally otherwise we wouldn't have been blessed with food for our little ones made from us. You haven't been a mommy for a whole week yet. Don't be so hard on yourself. It takes time and it gets easier. At the end you'll love the bond and experience and when it's over and baby is older you'll probably want to cry.
