When they asked me for standardized test in school I always checked black but my mother is Filipino and my father is black! I'm mixed though! My teacher's always told me to just mark my race as black and that's just what I did!

The one drop descendancy rule. Basically stating that if you are even partially black then you are considered black. Very frustrating! I'm half black and I've always been considered black legally. All other races we are mixed with fall behind being black.. Even if you are half and half which makes no sense!😑

Yeah. I had to mark white in school even though my father is Hispanic and my mom is white and Indian. My skin just happens to be light but I only have a super tiny percent of Caucasian in my blood.

I thinks its more based on bow society will see you to be honest.... of course your baby will be genetically mixed but no one but you and the babies family will see that. When he or she is with u in the grocery store or at school where people won't care about her genetic make up all they will see is a little black girl. Sounds bad but it's true...

I've dealt with it my whole life. your child is multiracial. if you choose for her to know and embrace them all then you do that. president Obama is mixed and still considered the first black president. society tends to think ppl use mixed to say they're better or prettier. my whole family is just about in interracial relationships my child is going to be super mixed but I'll choose to make sure he embraces them all n loves himself

@islandftm, and that's how it should be...I felt like this woman was putting my child in such a small box..it is unfortunate that society see only one race but I am def going to teach my daughter to love all of her and she is by no means better than anyone else

Yes definitely. I was teased as a child because my parents are darker n so is my sister she's got purple Elizabeth Taylor eyes that I love. I definitely still correct people when they tell me I'm black...I am not going to accept it because I'm not "just black". I think you've got the right idea to teach her that she's unique and mixed early on because kids are going to have questions on everything they're so unfiltered
