I think it's safe... Most doctors say so, there's just always people saying it isn't. But a lot of people get them every single visit no matter what and they've never seen any complications due to them
The effects of long term use of ultrasounds on babies are undetermined. Due to that most doctors will not ultrasound at each visit unless there is a medical reason for monitoring the baby
