Ok nurses, mommies of multiple kids, and any one else who knows.. What can I take for this awful cough??? it's getting way out of hand and I can't sleep, talk, drink, lay down, nothing without coughing!! And I've called my doctor but of course I got a machine and no call back.... So, safest cough remedy/medicine I can take? Go!!

Its not like a sick cough, it's just a awful cough.. my throat don't hurt and I don't feel bad other than coughing up both lungs and a kidney every time!!
