Nickolai would be easier for people to spell because automatically you hear nick then add lai.. but Nikolai is less letters to spell.. its up to you. I agree with Nikolai being better in the sense that its just one flowing name vs nickolai being a mix of two words making one name. Try making your hubby write it down maybe he will get a feel for how easier it is to spell it your way.
