Ok. this might seem like a really weird question but what is that thing that I see most mommies wearing on their bellies? it has a circle on it and the and there's a cloth strip that goes around.

It's a monitor, most likely a non-stress test that measures the baby's heartbeat and if you're having any contractions.

so pretty much like a Doppler only it measures contractions?

Kind of.. It measures both the heartbeat and contractions. They only use it if they're worried about the baby, or when you're labor to see if the baby is tolerating everything and if you're contracting.

I have one on now. I get it done at my doctors office. It's for fetal monitoring. Basically since my son is small they measure his heart rate and do a non stress test to make sure his heart rate stays in the normal range and doesn't drop meaning he's not going into distress. Also checks for contractions and such.
