Breastfeeding is important and I can't speak on the experience of everybody else only that which I closely identify with. In my experience people of other races support me more than my own with this breastfeeding. I get asked when am I gonna stop by my peers while others say " do it for as long as you can try to go two years!"
A friend of mine even made a post on FB: "Why do ppl have their big ass baby that can walk n talk on the tit". I go to the nail shop and they all come gather like " oh my god you're breastfeeding" and I know it's because of the surprise that Me, a black woman does breastfeed. So I have been trying to do my part to encourage those around me of any race but especially mine to Breastfeed if you can!!! #BlackWomenDoBreastFeed

Not trying to be rude but I don't think it has anything to do with your skin color.

😏 all women should be encouraged to breastfeed regardless of color.

@blackprincess149, I just took a breastfeeding support class & African American Women have the lowest rates for breastfeeding compared to other races . That's why this week was created for African American Women . & also we had the highest infant mortality rate as well .

this is kind of how I feel about it. I don't feel like we need anything out aside and we don't need to lament on it. Those facts you state don't mean we need an awarness week, they're just facts, not due to racism or anything like that. We tend to separate ourselves from the majority ourselves by things like this. I'm not sure if I explained my pov well but I tried lol

Totally agree with u. When my baby starts getting fussy & I'm at a friends house or private setting they all stare like omg! Wyd!?? They tell me my boobs going to get ugly, he's going to be clingy, & etc. but I really don't care cause I think boob is best.

I didn't say it to mean my skin color as I am not "black" in color it is me as an African American woman to be specific for those who can not interpret this from the post @blackprincess149

Black history and black breastfeeding two different scales in that case I agree with Morgan Freeman our history should not be reduced to a month! In the case of Black Breastfeeding Week it's to encourage women of color who are not encouraged by their peers or even in the communities where they receive medical treatment to breastfeed. I delivered in a predominantly white neighborhood and they encouraged me in the hospital to bf when I had my first 13 years ago the first thing they asked was Enfamil or similAc there is a difference ! @blackprincess149

I respect all views and this is the one time I forgot a disclaimer that I love to use when I speak on breastfeeding because it's inevitable someone will always get offended I don't even know if my disclaimer would have mattered I thought since I didn't use this photo that would help as well lol @elenaj @blackprincess149 @daniellemariee I see your point of views and I don't disagree with them totally this is just mine 😊

Right @mommyofaking even my child's father says your nipples are too big and dark to feed in public it may show 😩 you can't do what others do and because I know him i know it's because he like many are not accustom to african American women breastfeeding all my friends of other races are totally supportive that's my truth
