question for breastfeeding mom's
my newborn is now a week old and at her appointment she has already gained some of the weight she lost back. I have been trying to stick to the every 2-3 hour feeding schedule but she is very hard to wake up and sometimes goes longer then 3 hours... How do I keep her awake to feed? or is it OK to feed on demand? I didn't make it this far the first time lol

at that age they say to wake them up for a feeding.

yes, but any tricks to keeping them awake during feeding? she keeps falling right back asleep

I would run under my sons chin, poke him, wipe his face with a damp cloth, tickle behind his ears.. most of that worked.

my son was fed on demand & we are going on 8 months EBF

also I would just let him sleep he didn't stay up thru a whole feeding till he was about 3 weeks old

@jalensmommy I'll try that. I try the tickling and rubbing but I'll definitely try the wet clpth @kainesmadre Did you do that this young?

I fed on demand most times. but if I knew he was hungry or gonna wake up really cranky bc he's hungry... I would wake him up

yes I just let him eat when ever he was hungry if he wanted to sleep I'd let him sleep the thing that's gonna drive you nuts is cluster feeding she's gonna be hungry every 30mins to an hour & it'll make you feel like she's not getting enough but TRUST your body when she starts cluster feeding she's telling you body to make more for her

I always just feed on demand. If you think she's getting enough then let her sleep, as long as you're offering it! Just make sure she's having enough wet diapers!

@kainesmadre I think she already is cluster feeding. She eats every 1 or so in the mornings and like 1 am -3 am she may feed a couple of times then she will go longer in the afternoons and early evenings

yes mam & it's gonna drive you nuts after a couple of days it lasts up to a week

@itsbekah She does have very frequent and regular bowel and wet diapers... @kainesmadre @jalensmommy Thank you for your input like I said I didn't make it this far the first time and he was starving all the time so I had no with this one what to do lol

lol yes my first baby was born 7 years ago I hadn't a clue what to do with him I only got like a week with him & my second on I only pumped for 3 months so it was easier now with this one it was frustrating because he is exclusively breastfeeding so I don't know how much he's getting in the beginning it was really hard now it's a lot easier
