I have a question for any ladies on here that may know about this. I'm a little worried that when I deliver my baby boy Medicaid will go after my boyfriend for medical costs?? Has anyone ever heard of something as crazy as this? I'm legally married still but he's not the father (lives in different state) and my boyfriend started living with me and is obviously going to be in his life and we're together, I want him to sign paternity/birth certificate and he doesn't make much but could this be a possibility? Also Will I even be allowed to get Medicaid for my son because without it I won't have any insurance for him... Sorry for going on and on but I just started googling stuff and I'm not getting any clear answers... Also I am not getting WIC or anything just Medicaid.

To my belief, you don't have to pay Medicaid, medical, or food stamps back and neither does your child's father. Only cash aid has to be paid back. I COULD be wrong. This is just what I've heard!

@queendavis, this is correct. You don't pay medicaid back. If you qualify for Medicaid, with no changes in your income, your child will also qualify for Medicaid or whatever state funded healthcare option is offered for infants and children (in Arkansas it's called ArKids). Is there a reason you aren't receiving wic? If you qualify for Medicaid, you will also qualify for wic.

@levleah, yay I'm right! 😂 haha thanks! But yes girl you should get WIC too, it's very very helpful! I have friends who get WIC and they say it makes a big difference!

@queendavis, thanks that helps me worry a little less!! I heard some say that it depends on what state you're in.. Or that could happen IF he's absent or if child support is necessary.

@levleah, @queendavis I haven't applied for WIC because I'm not sure if I will qualify because he lives with me... And I can't say he doesn't live here and I've heard of people going to jail and having to pay whatever they received back to them. He only makes around $1300 a month right now..

Another thing that scares me is if they ask at WIC about my household income if I include him they might try to take away my Medicaid? 😕 I am probably overly worrying way too much

@ftmbabyboy11, living together doesn't disqualify you. His income would only potentially disqualify you if you two were legally married, and filed joint taxes where they'd look at your combined income.

@levleah, I might call and make an appointment after all, I have a bad habit of over thinking things and worrying too much, Thank you 😊

@ftmbabyboy11, I'm an overthinker, too. But there's NO harm in trying, especially when you know you genuinely need the help. Definitely give them a call, the worst they could do is tell you that you don't qualify.
