A friend of mine adopted their first son. And my brother in law has started the process for adoption. My advice would be start now cause even when all your paperwork is done and you're just waiting you can wait for a long time. My friends waited 2 years and even then had to go in a change their preferences to any race. Any gender. Ect.

@californiahaley, my mom hasn't really told me much about my case other than I was in foster care a year and when they started their process it took 6! I just don't think we can afford it.. plus we have to be married so many years

My friend and her wife were married less then a year when they applied. The only reason it "only" took two years is because they were willing to accept a new born who's birth mother had been incarcerated and he was a newborn with "undetermined amount of prenatal drug and alcohol consumption" no one else really wanted him.

I was told I wasn't able to get pregnant so I always thought I would have to adopt. My biggest fear is that the birth parents would want them back or they would want them over me when they got older.

@jrose114, I was told them same since I was 15, Alaura was a legit miracle.. my obgyn actually argued with me when I told him I was pregnant!

Yeah they have been telling me this since i was 19 now 26 and also. I didn't know I was pregnant and I was at the doctors and they told me I would have to get surgery and spend $$$$ to get pregnant and I was all upset and I started my exam and she's like your 8 weeks pregnant I just started crying i was like. You just said I can't get pregnant their is no way. And she said look there's the heart beat. Out lol boy is our miracle baby

Adoption is such an amazing and selfless thing! Just make sure you meet all the requirements before going through the whole process! You don't want to start and then be turned down! It would be a serious bummer!

My mom tried to adopt a little boy a couple of years ago but in Idaho you have to be married to adopt. I know there's also an age rule. Here in Idaho you have to be 27 years or older to adopt. I hope you can someday! I love when people adopt!

@taylorraye, You have to be 25 and married in ga.. by the time we would be ready we would meet those, Shawns 27 but I'm almost 23. I was adopted and I'd really love a chance to save a baby who needs a loving family.. I've always wanted to, I honestly believe it's my "destiny" if that's the right word lol

I would look up the requirements for your state and go from there

Idk how much they paid. I assume a pretty penny this being California and all anyone wants is profit. I know when they had their 2nd and tried a sperm bank it cost them about $20K and it didn't work.

@californiahaley, There is an agency I keep looking at, they provide ways to adopt without you having to fork all the money over at once such a interstate free loans and stuff.. I definitely want a newborn so I know it's more than normal

my adoption took 8years. only because my "dad" refused to give up his rights.

@_akgirl, mine was 6, my birth mom was in and out of jail and kept trying to get me back

yeah my dad was in jail for my first 14ish years. he only wanted my brother and I so he could get the money to support his addiction. my mom was also in and out of rehab but she gave up rights right away because she knew she couldn't provide the life She wanted for us.

@_akgirl, I have three other brothers and 1 sister, I've only met 2 of my brothers, I didn't find out until I was 17.. I had gone to school with both of them since elementary!

@_akgirl, honeslty, I had a crush on one of my brothers. I had No idea who he was, when he found out he told me. so I confronted my parents and they told me. I puked lol

lol. I'm sure i would have too!! I've always wondered if i had any other siblings. i know from court documents from the adoption that i have at least 2 that are at least 15yrs older than me.
