Well now that my son is 2, we're officially an extended rear facing family. Did you know the American academy of pediatricians recommends rear facing until at least 2, or preferably until your child outgrows the rear facing limits of his/her car seat? Up until 2, rearfacing is 500% safer. After that we don't know exactly how much safer it is, but we know it's safer, we know that a child's spine doesn't completely ossify, or harden, until an average of 4 years, and we know motor vehicle accidents are the number 1 killer of children under 12.
Car seats for the littles is a great page on facebook that has certified car seat technicians (the closed group), where you can post pictures and find out if your child fits in his seat and if it's properly installed. I did all the wrong things with my daughter 9 years ago, thankfully we weren't involved in an accident, but now even she is safer in a booster because someone pointed out a mistake and led me to look into proper car seat safety.
Always amazed
At the amount of seats that come into seat checks totally wrong. I did roughly 30 checks today and only 4 were right! Lots of babies are now safer in the car!
So, in IL you now have to leave your child rear facing until two years of age, my question is do any of you mommies know a good car seat that starts as rear facing but can transition to front facing? I am going to need to get a new car seat before long but I was hoping to be able to turn her front facing at a year old and now that that is out of the question, I have to figure something out.
I know we all have our opinions but my child depending on the size. If he/she is out of the infant car seat will be forward facing. Because rear facing ain't the safest either.
Car accident and car seat question
My husband was just rear ended and our daughters car seat was in the car. We need to report that to the insurance, right? Even though she wasn't in it?
What are the car seat laws in your state? Mine is rear facing until 2. I know people who turned their kids to forward facing at a year.
