I've given my dog benedryl plenty of times for his allergies. He was 15 pounds and I gave him one pill a day I believe.

Benadryl is totally okay for dogs! Just make sure it's the name brand, and NOT the cheaper knock-off one. Us human bodies can handle it, but there is something (sometimes) in the knock-off ones that can cause renal failure in certain breeds. Keep at eye out for vomiting, and If they do, bring the pup in to see the Vet. Also, freeze a handful (like 15-20) of blueberries to give your dog as a treat. They are high in antioxidants and help dogs with allergies and watery eyes. My dog loves them! Especially since it's been so hot!

Heartguard comes in tablets that are unflavored for dogs who have allergies. I'm not sure the price though. Maybe check petmeds.com. -- And no prob!!! (:

yeah our pitbulls allergic to everything outside! Hes only a year but it is okay to give them benadryl!

Some areas have stopped carrying that chewable Heartguard tablets though, and if that's the case, you can order Oral Ivermectin, it's the main ingredient in Heartguard and won't harm your dog because of the beef allergy.

Great to know! @jennatess on our military base they only carry the stuff they gave him. They told me about this one that just goes on his skin but it was really expensive for only three month supply. We normally get our dogs six month supply at a time. I'll have to go on and see what else I can find for him. He HATES the pill like it's such a hassle to give it to him

@laducerfamily, our pit it allergic to beef and pork so we have to watch everything he eats especially if he tries for the trash lol

Oh man, I bet that's an pain! My Vet has as an alternative, I just have never tried it. It's a shot, and it's good for 6 months. I believe it's like $80, but, then you don't have to remember to give the pill every month. I plan on switching over to the shot as soon as she's out of her supply of pills. The price could range though -- I have a five pound chihuahua, so her meds are always cheaper because she's so small. I'll try and find the name of the shot for you.(:

I gave my pitbull benadryl when he got bit by something outside and his face swelled up. I gave him 50mg every 12 hours I believe.

my pug has allergies and we give him Benadryl (per my vet). We give 1mg for each pound they weigh. so a 70lb dog would get 70mg
