for me it was after...I called my insurance to find out...I had one already picked out and the pediatrician at the hospital sent all my baby's info to the clinic
We are having a meet and greet with the pediatrician that we picked out. I asked a lot of friends and nurses that I am friends with, including ER nurses.

Before you have the baby because some hospitals won't let you leave unless you have one at least in Maryland that's how they are .
