Question and TMI about my son.
He is a little over 2 1/2 yrs and we have been working on potty training for about a month now. He pees really good and has hardly any accidents. Pooping is another major issue. He has major anxiety and holds it until it hurts his belly... On top of that he is a bit constipated too and I have tried everything diet wise to remedy it. He drinks plenty of water and juice (been giving him prune and pear diluted with water) and adding plenty of raw fruit, as many veggies as I can get him to eat, and whole wheat for fiber... Now I am noticing broken blood vessels around his booty hole and I feel so defeated... Could the anxiety be making him constipated? and I have explained to him many times that it's ok to poop. How do I get him to understand?

I went through that with my daughter. After discussing it with her pediatrician and increasing her fiber she was eventually prescribed lactalose (sp). It made it were she had no choice but to have a bowel movement. It wasn't bad enough where she pooped everywhere but it allowed her to relax her muscles when using the bathroom. She was only on it for a short amount of time and I took her off. Each time she pooped I made a big deal and eventually she learned it was okay.

It was explained to me that she trained herself to associate bowel movements with pain so she would hold it until it was painful

@aliya0915 Thanks that makes since. I started noticing the "shame" of pooping before we started potty training. He would hide in the corner or get very quiet and then say "I have to go hide". Like I have been trying to calm him and explain to him that it's ok. He has a check up coming up soon I am gonna definitely talk to the pediatrician about it

Yes, and it's frustrating because you really don't know why or what's going on. Her doctor initially gave me the run around. She saw different specialist and had so many X-rays done where they put a tube in her butt to make sure her bowels wasn't obstructed. They wanted to do surgery and I decided no let's see someone else and then decide... And that's when it was explained to us what and what she was doing.

@aliya0915 Omg! Poor thing! Thanks for giving me the heads up on it... I definitely don't want to go over board with I feel like that would make his anxiety worse!

Exactly.. I refused to have her cut in if she didn't need it. Don't let them spin you. Hopefully he doesn't need anything and will get better 😊😊😊😊😊 GOOD LUCK!!!
