Is there away you can tell if u dialated more without going to see your obgyn?

I am a high risk pregnancy each time I get pregnant I delivery early n my obgyn Checked me yesterday n I was 2 cms dialated but I don't know if it was just the way my away moved or if she dialated me another inch

Some doctors don't like to do checks often because of the risk of infections, my midwife just told me that being dilated means nothing! She was 6 can dilated and went over her due date past 40 weeks!
