I don't see what's wrong with naming your child after your father .

If you don't want to name your son after your father then you don't have to and no one especially your mom should make you feel like you've made the wrong choice on the name for your son. He is your son and even if she will be upset that you didn't name him after your father she will get over it.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it.. I will be using my dads name as my sons middle name. I feel that the name I've chosen for my son is right for him. @jabarismommy

She says if only I knew how much my dad loved me then I would be naming my son after him but I think that's unfair, I may not remember how much he loved me but its all I've been told my entire life by everyone so in my heart I know. I think my dad would be happy with what I've chosen and I'm still honoring him by using it as the middle name.

I don't see why your mom is upset you're still using his name. It's really not her choice in which order you choose. She should be happy you want to use it at all because some people wouldn't. If we ever have a boy his middle name will be after his great grandpa. And the middle name of our daughter is in honor of hubby's sister that passed away about 7yrs ago and all of his family is happy about our name choice.

My dads name was Juan. But I'm going to name him Lorenzo. @rachaelbutsch Juan is such a common and typical Mexican name. I'm Mexican Italian and wanted a name that wasn't too common and that sounds good in English and Spanish.

I told her I felt like she was trying to make me feel guilty and she said she wasn't, she was just trying to tell me and basically if I felt guilty then there was a reason . In reality I don't feel guilty, I feel like Lorenzo is my sons name. When I say that name I don't think about or picture anyone but him and it just feels right in my heart, its hard to explain. But how can you not feel bad when your mom is standing in front of you crying? I'm glad your family is supportive of your name choice. I know she's happy and excited and I understand why she wants me to name him after my dad but I'm not going to and I shouldn't have to feel bad because of it. I was my fathers only child, so she said me having a son is a chance to carry on my dads name. He will because I will be hyphenating my and my bfs last name but she feels like Juan has to be first, not second. @santistevanmommie
