I gained 55 pounds in my first pregnancy, ate nothing but junk food, homemade Mac and cheese & unhealthy smoothies and I didn't get gestational diabetes. My dad was a diabetic so it runs in my family but I never got it. I'm 18 weeks now and I'm fairly certain I won't get it this time either. I wasn't aware weight gain was a cause of GD.
I was tested early at 10weeks and am now 16 almost 17 weeks because my mother has diabetes and I gained 8 pounds like you rather quickly . I don't have GD. So I don't think the weight gain can affect but I am not entirely sure!
When I failed the 1hr test I was the same way I freaked out and thought I was going to have it. Thankfully I passed the 3hr one. I wouldn't worry too much tho
They did a blood draw before they gave me the drink then every hr for 3 hrs after the drink for a total of 4 blood draws. And they did blood draws but it was only little vials
Every time. And every time they did I wanted to stab them lol. I hate needles so much and they think it's funny to be rough with me or something. My left arm was bruised after that.
It was terrible. Then of course I started feeling sick since you have to fast. It was no fun. Even if you don't pass the first time don't get discouraged tho cause I read that a lot of women fail the 1hr but pass the 3hr
They had a different blood test done on me rather than a normal glucose test... and it came back saying I have pre diabetes and I have not even gained back the 10 lbs I lost right after I got pregnant I've only gained 6 lbs since pregnant so I'm guessing weight doesn't affect you

I don't think weight gain determines if you have it. I gained 10lbs in a month and I ended up not having it. Drs aren't really sure what causes GD

@santistevanmommie, did they take your blood every hour during the 3 hour? and did they just prick your finger or did they actually draw blood?
