I'm not asking for a lecture or to be told I am an awful person so please if you wish to do either just keep scrolling.
My husband and I have always had one major difference in raising our kids. Now that we are pregnant I'm kind of freaking out about what to do. I do not believe in God and he does. He wants to take the kids to church which I am ok with BUT I will not attend. That kind of bothers him. I am not giving in and be should not just because I won't attend. I don't want our kids growing up thinking everyone has to do what other people want or they won't be loved. I grew up like that. I didn't like it.
Has anyone else experienced this type of issue? How did you handle it? How do you think it affected your children?
Thank you for your input.

I grew up religious and my rents made me go to church every week and when I got older some of the girls in my church and their friggem parents were so mean it was a cake walk going to school which is messed up. changed my view on the church and going but I still have my beliefs . same w my hubby so we lucked out there but maybe urs could compromise w u if its more the church aspect you dont like. u can still teach them beliefs and what not at home but not get the bull the church serves up. hope that didn't insult u I no religion is touchy subject

that's not fair... you both knew this about each other and you are supportive of his believe he should respect yours also... I'm curious as to how y'all handled your marriage since most people have it in church. Did that cause a debate too??😓

My husband and I don't believe in God either-we aren't atheists just non believers. However we have family who are very devout Christians. We firmly believe in tolerance and making sure our daughter has an open mind and is knowledgable about all religions so she can make her own decisions when she's old enough. It seems like you keep an open mind and respect his views, he should absolutely respect yours and compromise!

@livd15, thank you for your perspective and I'm sorry those people were so mean. You didn't say anything offensive. He want to actually go to church and be an active member. I don't believe in God at all. I will get the baby dedicated and be present for that but honestly I am more of a "be kind to others because it's the right thing to do" kind of person. I agree in the concept of heaven and hell but also reincarnation and there aren't any pearly gates...if that makes sense. I don't want to confuse our kids. I'm so confused right now :-(

@ce5ce, not at all ;-) we had a small ceremony at my mothers with family, friends ans a JP and when we renew our vows we will do it in a church with the kids and family and that whole show...but no fancy reception lol
The way I see it is his mother goes to church, I don't have to go to hold his hand she can do that and they can practice their religion together. Of course I will support our kids in plays or if they want to tell me about the services but I'll keep my own beliefs. :-)

@mickbaby, thank you for your input also. This is getting my gears turning and how I can talk to him and his mother about it when the time comes.

@bengsmom10, then what gives... that's not fair. you are compromising way more than he is and he doesn't seem to see that at all. I'm confused right along with you😳😳

@bengsmom10, ya that's pretty much my beliefs as well. I believe in God but I feel a lot of what the church does is not for the right reasons and its bull. I agree w the be a good person karma kinda way. I like that u let him take them tho if its really important to him. when I was little I liked it there was no drama. not til like.middle school

@ce5ce, I'm not sure. I think he and I need to have a conversation about this this weekend. The conversation with his mother will come when our kid is old enough to attend. I think he thinks I will cave like I do everything. Hopefully this will all be handled this weekend. I just want to do what is best for our children without compromising who I am and what I believe in. I want my children to know it's ok to believe something other people believe in. I think my husband is Catholic (I don't even know the names of the different religions) but if our child grows up and believes more of the Wicca faith, so be it. Just don't choose your religion because of what others want or expect from you.

@bengsmom10, I agree wholeheartedly. I stay away from religion but I do believe in God. Religion is man made to manipulate and I can't support it. I know as long as I love God, myself, and others I have nothing to worry about

@ce5ce, tomorrow I would like to message you about this if that is ok. I have some questions that I do not think are fair to ask you publicly but you have me interested in something you said. I have to get some sleep now otherwise I'll never get up tomorrow to see the neices and nephews.
