So I live over in Arizona and a year ago my mom moved out to Kansas to live out there. So my due date is October 24th, she's been planning to fly out either the 24th or maybe the 31st if my due date is late. Don't get me wrong I love my mom more than anything, but sometimes she can be a bit much. She's so excited that I'm having a baby, because I'm her youngest child but she has like 6 other grandchildren. So she's flying out around that time, and staying at my apartment for two weeks. Mind you we don't even have room for a baby, we won't have room for her to stay here for two weeks. I feel like the first two weeks of his life will be important and precious and I just want to be able to enjoy it but I know she'll be holding him and keeping him all to herself. And it'll be new for my boyfriend and I to get use to I feel like those first couple weeks may be a bit tense because him and i will have to learn how to take care of the baby. What do I do?

it's your mom and obviously like you said she's so excited. believe me you will thank your mother to be there with you the first two weeks specially if it's your first child.

I am actually in the same predicament. I have made it clear to the women in my family that my husband and I need the first 2 weeks to get the hang of things and figure things out. I've also told them that if and when they come they should all try to come at the same time and only for a week that way they all leave at the same time. I know I sound harsh but it has become more stressful just thinking about them coming then actually having the baby. My mother was trying to stay for a whole month and I just didn't think I could handle that, her and I have a better relationship with some distance. The way I see it is that this is my first child and I won't be able to get that time back so I feel it's important that I do what's best for me. The hard part was finding a nice way to explain this to them. But in the end they will still love you and if they think your being selfish well so what this is your child whom you have to care for.

Honestly, because I was there for all of my sister's births, they truly appreciated my help. there were times when they couldn't get out of bed. or they wanted to shower and it'd stress them out cuz they didn't wanna leave baby alone, they felt better knowing I was there... I'd do most of the cooking and cleaning. I'd give them their space to bond with my nieces and nephews. .. they had more time to spend with their babies.. not having to worry about life outside the baby's needs

@sofia90, @mssjudyk I feel like it would most definitely be helpful don't get me wrong at all, but like @blue_87 is saying I kind of want to do it myself and learn. That definitely is time I won't get back, sometimes she can be a bit much. And sometimes she can stress my boyfriend and I out. But it will be beneficial if she's here because she can cook and clean and will guide me on what to do since she's had 6 kids. I don't want to be harsh, because I know how excited she is.

Just let her know and be honest... tell her u wanna spend as much time with your baby and hopefully she gives u the space u need. Hopefully she proves to be more helpful than not :D. My mom passed away 10 years ago. I live in Sacramento CA, I have no family out here it's just me and my bf... Idk how I'm a be able to handle everything on my own. I wish I still had her, wish she could've met her grandson. But it is what it is and I'll just have to tough it out :)
