Just delivered my baby girl late last night and I DETERMINED to breastfeed because i didn't with my boys 8 & 6 years ago. The hospitals weren't baby friendly didn't do skin to skin and didn't care if I nursed this time they are amazing. She latches, and nurses but omg does it hurt. The nurse told me she's latching ok, but is it still normal to be so uncomfortable. She's a tiny little peanut but she sure is always hungry. We are using a small amount of formula because her sugar is low so to keep it above 55 to ensure she wil come home Friday and stay with me in the room in supplementing but it's not messing with her nursing thank god. But what other tips do other nursing moms have for me when it comes to the latch and the soreness it's bringing me!!

make sure she opens her mouth super wide and part of your area goes in her mouth too other wise you'll end up with blood blisters on your nipple.

also you can get this cream called lansinoh at Walmart. it's purple. it works wonders on breastfeeding pains

yes make sure her mouth is super wide before she latches on. She should have a mouth full of areola, not your nipple. what I do is point my nipple to her nose and once she opens wide put it to the roof of her mouth, that way she has a wide mouth full. you know baby is latched properly when both her top and bottom lip are curled up like a duck lol. good luck and congratulations!
