So got back my daughter newborn screening and it said she was diagnosed with sickle cell trait. Anyone other mothers know someone with this. I know it's the disease but still I hate that she has this. Cause i know I have sickle cell anemia but my other children didn't get this. So how come it passed them but my newborn has it.

Do the father have the trait? My fiancé carry the trait but I don't. He's niece and nephew has sickle cell bc his sisters and their kids father carry the trait. Did your newborn father get tested for the trait?

No I just found out today through the mailed so I know I have to take her back for her second newborn screening

@sunshinelovesu he could be carrying the trait and y'all didn't know. Since I told them about his family history they tested me for it but I don't have the trait. I know from his sisters that both of you have to have the trait in order for your child to get sickle cell.

I have the trait. & now my son have it. He's fine. It's just the trait not sickle cell. My mom have the trait as well. It's nothing to worry about.

Totally understand I was so pissed that my mom never told me that she & I had the trait I was so worried
