I know breast feeding is best, but I'm about ready to throw in the towel and it's barely been 9…

That's one of my biggest fears.. My son didn't latch on, nipple shields helped but didn't do it because I wasn't producing anything && I have inverted nipples (great combo right?), he lost a lot of weight and I decided going on formula was better than burning more calories trying to get milk... My son will be 4 1/2 when this little one is born, it's my goal to breastfeed this time but who knows what'll happen. I didn't even breastfeed my son for 2 weeks so I understand wanting to give up already. Hopefully you'll figure out what's best for the little one. Good luck!

Thanks @kimberlyyyy My son just turned 4 1/2 and I breastfed him for about 5 months with no problem. (He spit up so bad I switched to soy formula). Idk what to do when problems like this come up because he was a champ at breastfeeding. I just am tired of the pain!

Aw hun don't throw in the towel! I now it's rough. My son is 2 1/2 months old and we still use a shield. I figured out that my shied was too small and that was part of his latching problem and the pain associated with his latch. I also discovered I wasn't putting the shield on right. And at the beginning I had to pump a little out before I nursed or after so that I wasn't in pain. Do you know if your baby has tongue or lip tie? That could also be the issue. Sorry not trying to force anything on ya I was in the same boat(not with a 4 year old, just with nursing) not to long ago and I so wanted to throw in the towel but I stuck to my guns.

I haven't watched them I just googled. my nipple shield rarely hurts if it does I 're attach

She doesn't have a tongue tie or anything. She just doesn't open her mouth all the way...@bentleyandmommy

@alicia3_21, I'm mainly in pain on the sides of my boob from being so full. They feel like they're on fire.

o your just engorged that should go away anytime! if u need to pump some out do u have a pump

I feel you. I too use the shield. And I've been making my lo feed w/o it. He gets so mad, but eventually he gives in. It takes a few minutes of fighting him but he gets tired out. My LC said pump when necessary. Nighttime is for sleep. And only feed them at night on demand. So don't worry about pumping at night. Best to pump when they're down for a nap. I know it's exhausting. I too might have to supplement when I go back to work. I nurse around the clock except at night and still I don't produce enough to pump and store. It's crazy.
