A new study shows that one dose of caffeine -- just two cups of coffee -- ingested during pregnancy may be enough to affect fetal heart development and reduce heart function over the entire lifespan of the child.

hmm I'd like to see more studies on this before I believe that....pretty sure my doctor wouldn't recommend caffeine for my headaches if it really affected her heart that much.

Hence is a new study done, it's all pretty recent and yeah I agree with you that more research needs to be done. But not until another study comes out saying this one is not true or until there's more evidence to support this one I'd rather be safe than sorry. The fact that there's already a possibility of it happening that's enough for me to stay away from it or anything that may potentially hurt my baby. @mdomke22

One study on mice is not indicative of human systems and reproductive behaviors.

I've worked in the Pharma research industry (at Eli Lilly, Amgen, Gilead now) 13 years and we do multiple trials with a lot of different animals/humans for 5-10 years before being able to make claims and produce drugs to the public. That's because even if it works mice, doesn't mean it will work in any other animal let alone humans.

This study clearly lacks the basics protocols to prove negative effects, especially since you need multiple trials to be done prior to making a claim. Believe what you'd like but all this proves it can have an effect in mice. Sometimes.

It's really just propaganda against caffeine with no basis. I'll take my advice from trained doctors.

Absolutely trained doctors know best. However they still tell you to limit your caffeine consumption. To each their own but cofee is not good anyway and once again, better safe than sorry:) @danamarie
