I'm fairly sure my son slept a lot in the beginning. They're just not used to the real world yet. If you're concerned talk to the pediatrician but I seem to remember it's normal. Make sure the little one is eating though. Even if you have to wake them up.

my baby slept a ton as a newborn too. I had to wake him to nurse and tickle his feet and the back of the neck to keep him awake while nursing.

Yeah I'm guessing newborns are. When my son was first born he only cried when he was hungry & he slept the rest of the time. I mean I would mess with him & try to annoy him to wake him up but nothing worked, slept right through it all. I was worried so I asked his pediatrician about it & he told me that they just sleep a lot for the first few months of life. My son still sleeps about 10 - 12 hours a day but can easily be woken up if I need to feed him but when he's awake he's all smiles.

Yes. My daughter was such a heavy sleeper she use to get a child rag to get my daughter to wake up and nurse because tickling didn't work so we would have to strip her down and rub a cold rag on her to get her to latch
