16 weeks is when they CAN do it but it's best to wait till 18-20 weeks. Some ultra sound techs aren't great at determining the sex. And I think it's free to find out the sex at your first anatomy scan at 20 weeks but before that (between 16-18) you have to pay for the gender scan. I paid 50$ at my 18week scan. I couldn't wait lol.
I got one at 15 wks they said it was a girl and another at 20 weeks that confirmed boy, so I wouldn't trust it until atleast 20 weeks, but the panorama blood test can tell gender as early as 9 weeks
Your doctor typically has a time when they want to do it, and won't do it any earlier. My doctors office won't do it any earlier than 19 and a half weeks, but offices are different.
I found out I was having a girl at 15wks but my father in law paid for it then had the anatomy scan at 22wks and they confirmed it was a girl. It's best to wait because sometimes it can be wrong if you get it done too early

My doctor didn't want to do the scan until 20-22 weeks but I begged her to do it early for my birthday present and she did it at 17 weeks 5 days :)
