I never worked as a CNA but I had to get certified in order to get into nursing school. I didn't find it very emotional at, it was actually very rewarding! The class itself wasn't difficult and if you enjoy working with the elderly it is great! It's also a great stepping stone towards nursing. Best of luck!

I just enjoy working with people in general. Some stories I've heard, though, just make me really sad. @chloesmom16

It really just depends on what environment you work in, I can imagine it would be very difficult building a relationship with some of the people you care for and having them pass away. I have a friend who works as a CNA in a hospital and enjoys it a lot more than working in a nursing home @Laura_love

As I've gone on for nursing my instructors have continued to remind us that we are there to do a job. I hate to say it, but it's very true. Although it's good to build a bond with those people, you do have to kind of become desensitized to what happens on the job, as hard as that may be @laura_love

I worked as a cna almost 5 years, it's definitely not a job for everyone. you have to be able to handle death, heartbreak, physical and mental abuse (to yourself) and many other things. but there are many rewarding moments that will make it all worth it, you are their family! you literally are the caretaker to pretty every physical need they have minus meds and such. you feed, give showers or baths, you change them and dress them and you have to lift. alot., its definitely a demanding job physically but I loved every minute of it

Yes. the stuff they don't tell you in class is people in the nursing home alot of times have dementia, and do things to keep them safe because they don't understand what we are doing to them, I have been ounched, kicked, slapped, pinched etc. I actually have nerve damage in my right arm from being attacked one day, all they know is someone is trying to change they're shirt.. they don't understand it's dirty, they just know someone's doing something they don't like, so they're natural response is to protect themselves

I was a cna for a long time. I HATED it...but it was a job and someone needed to care for the elderly. I put up with so much physical and mental abuse from the residents. I would not recommend it if you don't have a thick skin and strong heart. it's not for everyone.

I'm not a CNA but I would like to be. I'm a caregiver in a nursing home with residents who have dementia/Alzheimer's and it's true there is a high change you'll get punched kicked or even bit but you end up falling in love with the residents anyway. I love my job and can't wait to be able to afford to take a CNA course! :)

Yes I had a lady bite me . But they don't know what's going on around them . I loved being. CNA but I like caring for people in general they're is a lot of crazy moments but I loved it . But now I'm a administrative assistant and i miss being with the residents .

No we have to go through our community college and its a few thousand dollars. I'm trying to financial aid so I can hopefully take one ml aura_love

@laura_love, not to my knowledge, if you're lucky and get a hospital job maybe... but 99% of the job is with elderly

Yeah, I think I'd prefer working with kids. Maybe I'll look into being an ultrasound tech
