Question for those of you who have had a boyfriend/husband go through detox....is it normal for them to say they want nothing to do with you or their child and be extremely verbally and emotionally abusive??

Yes, it's just the trials of getting clean. His head isn't clear right now. It'll pass❤️

@disneybaby1011, it's going to be tough. His body is going through a huge change. He's not himself. All you hear talking is his addiction. He'll come around, all you can do is be there for him and show him the same love you always do. I went through the same thing with my husband. He's said some hurtful things but in the end when he was himself again, he apologized and showed a lot of remorse for the way he treated me during detox. It's a process.

@stevesgirl8414, I really hope so, I'm trying to be there for him but he doesn't really want me around at all. How long does the detox process usually take?

it really depends. I'd say it took me 2 weeks to detox. it took my fiancé nearly 2 months. I'd say the first week is always the hardest withdrawal wise (physical pain, wanting to cave). after that it's more so adjusting to life without being under the influence and getting over cravings (which can drive you crazy). just be there for him. support him. when he's being mean, remind him that you're still here and that you love him, if it gets too bad it's ok to step away for a minute. the biggest part of quitting is having a stable strong support system.

it really may not seem like it now, but it will pass! it's going to be one the the hardest things for you and him both to go through but it will end.

@sgtpeppertheory, okay thank you. He's currently on day 5 and it seems to be getting worse instead of better or easier. I've had to step out a few times just because I don't want to say something that I will regret.

@sgtpeppertheory, he has gone to NA meetings, the thing is he is trying to get off his suboxone so he's not taking medicine anymore at all. We went through this 2 years ago when he made the decision to get clean.

is he still going? he really should go every time they have them while he's in this stage. it's more comforting sometimes going and being around people who have been through or are going through the same thing he is. suboxone is still a drug too, and it's as hard to get off of and go through than it was his drug of choice. did he ween himself off of the suboxone or is he quitting it cold turkey?

He has been going to every one at least he has been telling me he has. He is quitting cold turkey.
