What's the best way to go and why?
Epidural or pain meds?
I've been stuck on deciding (thanks to being a libra😭😅) and it's the last thing I need to finish my birth preference plan.
Help?
it is all about how your body feels. it's your choice. I wasn't going to do the epidural but then I was having back pain a lot cause my contractions were so close . the epidural started wearing off so I could start feeling everything again, but not as bad.
I had 3 different pain meds and the epidural lol. I kept asking for pain meds up until I was 5 centimeters and with those I still felt the contractions a little but they help u sleep. u need sleep or else you will be too tired to push. after that I had epidural and that lasted until after I gave birth. if it wears off u just push the button and it gives u another dose. I'm telling you the epidural will save your life! you won't feel not one contraction. at least I didn't and those hurt like hell so I definitely tell everyone to get it.
It all depends on your pain tolerance. Keep in mind that the pain meds do not take all of the pain. I only had one dose of pain meds and that was it. I didn't want the epidural so I can't help you there. With the pain meds you will get drowsy and that's about it. You will still feel faint contractions and it only lasts about 2-3hrs
I would do epidural, I had a spinal for my csection and it was literally the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. that's the only part I'm nervous about for my second csection :(
I'm horrible w pain too thats y i got epidural was awesome first 12 hours and the last 6 we're complete torture it wore off and because I stopped dilating after I got it even worse it was longer and my back pain is pretty constant now and it's been like 3 months already: ( I woulda rather been in pain shorter time then prolong it everyone's different tho good luck!
@mmora, for the pain meds do you know what the might give me? Because I can't have morphine due to a problem with it going to me instead of my mom when I was born. I'm just not sure if that's the first choice or not. I already wrote in my preference plan no morphine.
@itscatt, I'm the same way. Horrible with pain. I didn't feel the epidural at all when they did it. Honestly the IV in my hand hurt more than the epidural. But that was my experience and everyone is different. But the good thing is, if you chose pain meds and they don't work, you can always request the epidural! As long as your not too dilated of course
some epidurals don't take or they wear off also most give you horrible back pain later on in life, im going to try all natural. I already have horrible back pain as it is. but I'm attempting to prepare my self for natural. good luck!
@mmora, @californiahaley I'm not very good with pain. I never have been. I keep feeling like I want to have the epidural I'm just nervous about the effects of it after delivery. And the pain meds I'm afraid won't be enough to keep me calm haha
All I know is once those contractions started getting bad, I was so relieved to get the epidural and not be able to feel my legs 😂 but everyone's preferences are different!
