Could Unspayed Status Cause Aggression in Dogs?
Question for anyone who's a veterinarian/vet tech. My fiancé has a lab/huskie mix. She's around 1 1/2 years old, and not fixed. About 6 months ago, her and my sister's dog(also female) started fighting. The used to be best friends. It just started with growling at first. Then they started attacking each other. I thought maybe it was from where she was about to go into heat, but they were still neck and neck even after she was out of heat. At this point, though, my sister's dog has become the instigator and been starting the fights. Then, a little while later, she started growling at my parents' dog. Which is a male dog, and has even growled at my tabby cat and my sister's cat(both male) for no reason. Last night, however, according to my sister, she had our parents' dog cornered and attacked. It was broken up fast, but she cut his ear. Could all of this be because she's not fixed? Or should we go get her checked out to see if it's something else?

I'm not a vet tech but my dog got really aggressive when she went into heat. Like a whole new personality. We got her fixed and she's fine now.

it could be a dominance thing. my dog can't be around any other female dog that wants to be dominant because she will fight them.

she could wanna be dominant over them too. id see about getting her some obedience training and see how she does afterwards. she may just be a dog that can't be around other dogs. my mom has a dog like that. we have to put the other dogs up when she's out.

She also might be jealous. If she sees the other animals getting attention she might get jealous and want all the attention for herself. My dog would fight other dogs if I pet them more than I pet her. She was very loyal and jealous lol

She usually does well around my parents's dog, though, and she's wonderful with my dog. @may24th I didn't think about that, but we weren't petting the animals when she would growl or attack. I suppose that could be a factor though. @cchaya

It's a dominance thing, she needs obedience classes to be taught that the humans are the dominant not her. she thinks she is the pack leader right now, which isn't good. If she gets to out of hand with thinking she is the dominant she could even start not listening to you guys and get aggressive towards you.

But the thing is, she knows that we're in control. My fiancé has set her straight on that. If she does something wrong, and my fiancé or me knows, she'll cower because she knows she's in trouble and going to get punished. @cray.xo

really just depends on the dog. you don't gotta be messing with the other dogs for her to jump them or whatever. obendience class helped my dog a ton. she doesn't try and dominate every dog now. its definitely worth a try. :)

I think she's pretty obedient though, but guess you never know. My mom is going to try to get her fixed soon(if we have the money). I guess we'll see how that goes first, then go from there. @may24th

She doesn't need obedience classes for obedirnce, she needs them for aggression. Even if she is obedient to you guys.
