So, I'm thinking that my doctor might do a cervical exam tomorrow. To check to see if I am dilated and what not.. I am also thinking that I'm going to refuse them, I don't see any medical benefits to it, and I frankly just wouldn't care to know. Some women can go into labor completely not dilated, while others can walk around for weeks 3-4 cm and still not go into labor for another week.. Therefore, it's a pretty pointless exam, if you ask me. Husband isn't too happy with my decision, but, it's my vagina, so its my rules. I've ad a healthy pregnancy, therefore pelvic exams in general aren't really even necessary. Hope I don't come off as a ''difficult'' or ''bad'' patient.. :/ Has anyone else refused them? If so, what was the doctors reaction?

lol! my midwife asks "would you like to decline a vaginal exam today?"
I feel the same way- I've even know someone who was only 1cm up to transition, then dilated the full 10 in about 5 min, so it's not always a good indicator.

Ya your both so right ! @mrskuz I didn't get one til I was 40 weeks! I was excited to know I was 2-3 cm dilated but i still knew baby would only come when ready!

My midwife didnt do them at all. When I went in after my due date they still werent going to. I had to ask just to see if I was dialated at all since I was over due.

I had it done for the first time today, and my doctor gave me the choice. My honey wanted to know and so I agreed to it, it doesn't hurt at all, just made me feel like I needed to pee lol

It also depends on your body, @jstrong12712 some women have pain, others don't. I have allot of pain during just a regular pelvic exam. I was told it would not hurt, just feel like pressure, but it felt like someone was cutting my vagina open /:

So, I'm pretty sure dilatation checks would hurt me.

yeah a lot of women say it hurts which made me nervous but it wasn't bad at all for me luckily.

with my first when I went into labor I was almost at a 4 when I got to the hospital and with my 2nd I was a 3 I completely agree with you on it being pointless.
