this year my friend asked me, “What’s the difference between being in love and loving someone?” So I’m just going to answer that question because it’s actually a really interesting question, and it can actually help you learn a lot about love, because I think they’re two entirely different things. But if they’re combined together, you’ve probably found the love of your life.
So, being in love — let’s say that being in love is like being in a thunderstorm. Because they’re reckless and scary and loud and strong. And sometimes they’re fun — if you dance in the rain and it’s summertime, so it’s warm outside and you feel all happy, even though thunderstorms aren’t happy, I’m just saying, like — it’s just fun, and it’s free. And that’s what being in love feels like, because it happens so quickly.
And then thunderstorms are over so fast, and that’s what being in love — that’s what happens. You fall out of love, and no one really knows why, but it just happens. And loving someone is completely different, because you know that this person is going to be around for a long time, and it’s like the sunrise, because it happens every day, and it’s spectacular, and it’s different every day. And you can find joy out of it every single day. And if there’s a thunderstorm at sunrise, you’re in love while loving someone — if that makes any sense.
And you’re the luckiest person in the world. Because you found the love of your life.
