should I tell my birth story even though my daughter is already 7 months old? oh well, I am because I'm bored! it's VERY long so beware!
my due date was August 31st, 2014. around beginning of August my hands and feet would itch so bad, especially at night. I would lose sleep and scratch so hard I would make myself bleed. realizing this probably wasn't normal I called my doctor and they had me come in and do blood work. they said I could have a condition called icp which is dangerous for baby. but since I was 37 weeks even if I did have it, it may not show up on my blood work. a few days went by, Braxton hicks picked up, and Sunday night-monday morning (I had an appointment Monday to get an nst done and get my blood results back) I started leaking more fluid than usual. I called my mom and she told me to go to l&d. I did, and my water didn't break. my midwife told me she wouldn't be surprised to see me back later that night or the next day because I had dilated a little and I was contracting but irregularly. my mom, who lived in a different state, said she was leaving that moment and coming up here. she said she knew lucy was coming. we left the hospital and walked around until my doctors appointment that afternoon. my doctor told me my blood work came back pretty normal, but that didn't mean that I didn't have icp. she told me that if the itching got worse in a couple of days she would induce me due to the dangers for the baby. the itching had gotten worse over the weekend so I knew it wasn't getting better lol. I walked out and my mom had made it here and was waiting in the waiting room with my fiancé and brother. I told her everything they said and she said "do you want to try castor oil?" I thought and thought. I researched and determined that 1.) I didn't want to get medically induced. 2.) if my baby is in danger I didn't want to keep her in there any longer 3.) I was just told I was in early labor that morning, on top of the research I had done (I DONT NEED YOUR OPINIONS OR "FACTS" USING CASTOR OIL, if you get negative, I will simply blacklist.) I decided to give it a try. my mom took it with my sister and warned me that id probably be glued to the toilet. very exciting lol. I took 2 tbls and we all went and walked around the canal in our city and store for an hour or 2. I felt nothing. just uncomfortable and hot lol. we went back home and I took 2 more tbls. I went and walked back and forth in front of my house and my fiancé and I went to rent some movies to watch that night. still nothing was happening. no contractions, no poop, nothing lol. we came home, I took a shower, ate, and we started watching a movie. around 10pm my back felt like it was breaking. I thought this was the whole you're going to crap yourself part so I kept going in and out of the bathroom but nothing. I started leaking pink fluid and was bleeding. my mom came and asked if I was ok and I told her, and she said it's time. brandon got all our stuff in the car and we went to the hospital. I was in denial. we got there and they checked me and checked to see if my water broke. while I was waiting for them to tell me if it did, a nurse came in and started putting ivs in me. I asked if I was here to stay and she said "oh yeah! they didn't tell you? your water broke!" I got moved upstairs and walked for a little while until it got too uncomfortable. I asked for pain meds and they made me hallucinate. I was talking about shopping at Kroger with my fiancé. but my contractions stopped. so they gave me pitocin. after 15 hours of bouncing on this ball, screaming, crying, rocking, getting in the shower, I couldn't take the pain anymore. it took those 15 hours to dilate from 2cm to 4cm because I was in so much pain and couldn't relax. I begged for the epidural and MAN it was a life saver! afterwards I took a nap for about 30 minutes. I woke up and was feeling a lot of pressure down there. they called the nurse and the nurse said the midwife was assisting another birth so I had to wait. it was so uncomfortable all I wanted to do was push. finally the doctor came in and checked me and said "she's right here!" I pushed like a pro for about 30 minutes and at 5:03pm August 19th, 2014 my sweet 6lbs 15oz, 18 3/4 inches long princess was born! she came out head up (which is why her birthmark is so noticeable and her little face was so swollen). she also came out with her hand on her face and her thumb literally tore right through me if you know what I mean. they stitched me up for a whole hour. then lucy and I were able to do skin to skin and she could nurse.😊 17 hours of labor, 15 of it without the epidural!
