family medical leave act & it gives an employee up to 12 unpaid weeks off. You have to be on your job at least 1 year & the company has to have over 50 employees. You can take the time all at once or spread it out. This is diferent from short term disability that some jobs offer which is paid time off generally up to 6 weeks & then ppl use fmla after if they need more time out
Find out if your job offers short term disabilty. Also find out if your state has their own fmla requirements which are seperate from the federal that i mentioned above. Speak to your boss.& HR rep to see what type of arrangements you can make. If you have any sick or vacation time you can use that as well. Good luck
